The Dambimangari Board and management have negotiated significant agreements with the State Government and Australian Wildlife Conservatory to support the future management of some of Australia’s most important conservation and heritage areas.
The organisation has also set up a structure for increased business development, heritage studies, education support, health programs, welfare initiatives and renewed links to traditional Dambimangari country.
Mr McCumstie has been a significant community leader in the Kimberley region.
A member of the Derby West Kimberley Shire Council for 20 years – he spent more than 10 years as Shire President. He was also involved in the local speedway, golf and gun clubs.
He joined the Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation in 2011, the year that Native Title was determined by consent.
Dambimangari Chairperson Rowena Mouda said yesterday: “Since Peter commenced with the DAC, he has worked closely with past and present directors, staff and members for the betterment of all Dambimangari people and their country
“His achievements, dedication and efforts over the past seven years are greatly respected and appreciated.”
Peter McCumstie said his time at Dambimangari had been a wonderful experience and adventure.
“I believe that I owe it to Dambimangari members to move aside so that they can employ another CEO who is able to take up the challenge and work as hard as I hope I did to further the organisation to the full benefit of all the Traditional Owners.”
